Victoria Falls Boxing Academy founder and coach Tobias Mupfuti says he is happy about the academy’s recent showing at a National Boxing tournament held in Gokwe last Saturday on the 5th Of June.
The academy recorded six wins with juniors Given Ncube (9), Melusi Chicago (10) and Prince Urengwa (13) all recording wins in their respective bouts. On the seniors’ side, Phibion Moyo won by knockout in the second round while an impressive Cilemeko Mudenda won by knockout in the first round.
While Silethosenkosi Moyo won by points, Ntandoyenkosi Nyongoloza, unfortunately, failed to record a win, losing his bout on points.
Speaking from Charles Manyuchi’s training camp in Masvingo, Victoria Falls Boxing Academy coach Tobius Mupfuti said he was proud of the show his boys put up on Gokwe and bring home 6 gold medals and 1 silver medal.
“I am happy about their performance, they made me proud as a coach. This outing showed me that we are doing a great job in helping out the young boxers,” said Mupfuti.
Mupfuti went on to express that this is a sign that the Academy is ready to take part in the international tournament they are hosting here in Victoria Falls at the end of July.
“I can say they are now ready for international matches as we are preparing to host a Three Nation Tournament which will consist of Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana scheduled for 30 July in Victoria Falls. Am now confident that they will bring the belts home,” he added.
Mupfuti also added that the Academy is appealing for help in hosting this tournament that will go a long way in advancing sports tourism and improving the lives of these young boxers.
